The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bulgaria-Korea, member of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), participated in a business forum organised by the Korean Importers Association (KOIMA), jointly with the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria - KRIB and the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency of the Republic of Bulgaria. The event took place on the 26th April at the Grand Hotel Sofia and was opened by the Deputy Chairperson of KRIB, Mr. Dimitar Dimitrov and by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Mr. Lachezar Borisov. Welcoming speeches were also pronounced by H.E. SHIN Boonam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria and by Mr. Myoung Jin Shin, Chairman of KOIMA.
The forum was followed by bilateral (B2B) business meetings between Bulgarian and Korean companies, their beginning being preceded by the signature of two memorandums of understanding between KOIMA and KRIB and between KOIMA and the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency of the Republic of Bulgaria. It became clear from the statements during the forum that in 2016 the trade between Bulgaria and South Korea has risen by around 30% compared to the previous year, amounting to near 201 million USD (respectively 78 million in export to South Korea and around 123 million in import from South Korea). The benefits of Bulgaria as an investment destination were also presented, as well as the good traditions in traditional sectors, the qualified workforce and the perspectives to collaborate within sectors ot mutual interest, such as new technologies, industrial production, food industry, agriculture, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, textile, and others.
